A Melb Institute Wages report released this morning confirms a 3.2% increase in total pay growth in the 12 months to Feb, 2010. Institute research fellow Dr Edda Claus said similar outcomes for total pay and hourly wage rates suggest “some weakness remains in the labour market”.

Most workers expect a pay rise this year and 41% will look for another job if they don’t get one, a CareerOne.com survey has found. Two thirds of the 850 respondents said they needed a pay increase of 5% or more to keep pace with their expenses. Training and development (31%) and flexible working hours (25%) were the most popular non-financial rewards they wanted in lieu of a pay rise.
