Supporting the right to fair trial with reforms to jury directions and jury selection – Paula Rogers
Proposals for law reform on jury directions and jury selection have recently been made by the Queensland Law Reform Commission. This article provides an analysis of some of the Commission’s key recommendations through the lens of the right to a fair trial. The recommendations of interest are those for the use of “integrated directions†and for changes to the occupational categories of jury service ineligibility. It seeks to demonstrate that reforms to jury directions and jury selection can play an important role in ensuring that a jury trial is a fair trial.
