Organised by the New South Wales Young Lawyers’ Workplace and Safety Law Committee, the McCallum Medal is an annual public speaking competition for young lawyers and students with an interest in industrial relations and employment law. The prestigious competition is named in honour of Emeritus Professor Ron McCallum AO, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney, and current Vice Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

As the publisher of a wide range of employment law publications, including the quarterly Workplace Review journal, Thomson Reuters is proud to once again sponsor the McCallum Medal. We’re offering the winner a $500 book voucher, and Workplace Review will publish the winning presentation and the runner-up in a forthcoming issue!

For the first time ever, on Wednesday 6 November, the 2013 Medal presentation will be held at the Fair Work Commission in Sydney. Follow us as we live Tweet the event from 6pm and join the conversation under the hashtag #McCallumMedal.

The finalists will present their speeches before a courtroom full of guests from all areas of the employment law industry, and will be judged by the following distinguished panel:

  • Emeritus Professor Ron McCallum, former Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Sydney, Vice Chairperson, UNCRPD, Member, Administrative Appeals Tribunal;
  • Vice President Joe Catanzariti, Vice President of the Fair Work Commission, Past President of the Law Society and Immediate Past Chair of the Law Society of NSW Employment Law Committee; and

We extend our congratulations to the following finalists, and wish them the best of luck:
