A Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment & WR inquiry into provisions of this week’s Fair Work Bill will report to govt by Feb 27 next year, paving the way for a possible March pass date for the legislation. The bill was referred to the Senate inquiry on Nov 25 when Deputy PM & WR Minister Julia Gillard tabled it in the House of Reps. Written submissions to the inquiry will close on Friday, Jan 9, with the committee requesting, where possible, submissions be lodged by email in word or rich text file formats. The committee normally makes submissions public but stakeholders can request their submission be kept confidential. The committee will hold its first public hearing in Canberra on December 11 to hear from DEEWR to brief the committee on each chapter of the bill with an opportunity to ask follow-up questions. The hearings will be broadcast on the parliament website. For Senate committee website, click here.
