An Australian HR practitioner who invented the workplace conflict resolution tool ‘conferencing’ is the subject of a star-studded film about to be released. Facilitator of Proactive Resolutions John McDonald and his team developed the world-leading conference method to bring workplace bullies, their victims and others affected by their actions to face each other in a room. The aim is to for the participants to vent their feelings and work out an action plan to avoid future negative workplace scenarios. Matthew Newton plays a character based on McDonald in the David Williamson-scripted film titled ‘Face to Face’, with Sigrid Thornton and Vince Colosimo co-starring. McDonald said the conference tool allows participants to develop a resolution together rather than management imposing a solution on them. Facilitators follow up on the conference agreement to ensure it is being implemented.
