This competition was first run in 2011, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.thomsonreuters.com.au\/journals\/2012\/02\/27\/winner-of-the-intellectual-property-law-essay-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winning entry by Tyrone Berger <\/a>published in the Journal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The entries will undergo review by a judging panel that includes the Honourable Justice William Gummow AC. The winner will take home $1,000 and have their article published!<\/p>\n<h3>Who Can Enter?<\/h3>\n<p>Any person in Australia or overseas currently undertaking graduate law study or a person who has undertaken graduate law study any time since 1 January 2009.<\/p>\n<h3>What to write about?<\/h3>\n<p>Any topic (having relevance to Australia) relating to intellectual property.<\/p>\n<h3>The Judges<\/h3>\n<p>Essays will be judged by three members of the Journal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Advisory Board:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the Honourable Mr Justice Gummow AC<\/li>\n<li>Professor Sam Ricketson, Melbourne University<\/li>\n<li>Ann Dufty, founding Editor of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.thomsonreuters.com.au\/journals\/category\/australian-intellectual-property-journal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Intellectual Property Journal <\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Prize<\/h3>\n<p>The winner will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize from Thomson Reuters. The winning article, together with any other essays receiving a strong commendation from the judging panel, will also be published within a special Part of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.thomsonreuters.com.au\/journals\/category\/australian-intellectual-property-journal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Intellectual Property Journal <\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>The Rules<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Submissions should be approximately 5,000-10,000 words in length and be written in accord with the style guide at: <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.thomsonreuters.com.au\/journals\/ submit-article\/submission-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/sites.thomsonreuters.com.au\/journals\/submit-article\/submission-requirements\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Entries are only valid if written by a person currently undertaking graduate law study or a person who has undertaken graduate law study any time since 1 January 2009 (graduate law study entails course work master of laws, course work graduate diploma in law, a law research higher degree or a juris doctor).<\/li>\n<li>The essay must be an original work that has not been previously published elsewhere.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>The Deadline<\/h3>\n<p>Essays must be received by <strong>COB 30 November 2012<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>The Winner<\/h3>\n<p>The winner will be notified by email before 31 January 2013 and the article will be published in the first Part to publish in 2013.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Enter<\/h3>\n<p>Simply email your essay and a short bio to <a href=\"mailto:LTA.aipj@thomsonreuters.com\">LTA.aipj@thomsonreuters.com<\/a> and include &#8220;AIPJ Essay Competition&#8221; in the subject line.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, feel free to submit a comment below.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thomson Reuters and the General Editor of the Australian Intellectual Property Journal (AIPJ) would like to announce the launch of the 2012 Intellectual Property Law Graduate Essay Competition.
