Tasmania’s Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (No 1) received Assent on 18 April 2012. A prominent employment lawyer has claimed the proportion of dismissals likely to face legal challenge has risen dramatically since the implementation of the Fair Work Act.
He has also accused dismissed workers of using reinstatement claims to boost ‘go away’ money past the maximum compensation amount allowed.

Sydney architectural firm Johnson Pilton Walker has won a competition to design a national memorial honouring Australians who have lost their lives at or due to work.
The $3m memorial will be constructed in Kings Park in Canberra and is expected to be finished in time for Canberra’s March 2013 centenary celebrations.
