75% of Australians are turning to the bottle to cope with work stress, febfast National Director Howard Ralley told HRR.
Ralley said research showed we are “struggling to deal with the work life invisible barrier” and there was an “increasing peer pressure” among employees to drink after work.
Australians need to shift approaches to leadership and focus on “connected intelligence” (CI) to cope with social media and the “democratisation of knowledge”, an Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL) white paper said.
A Hays white paper has found one in five candidates (19.7%) would turn down jobs if they did not provide reasonable access to social media sites, like Facebook, at work. Legislating for flexible work places is a step in the wrong direction, according to HR expert and HR Anywhere managing director Martin Nally. “The Fair Work Act should set award minimum standards, but legislation should not define culture,” he said.
Advocating for a “push-pull” approach to flexibility, Nally said employers needed to understand “flexibility can’t be imposed as the needs of employees will be individual”.
